More than 8 930 electricity requests completed as City works to attend to all remaining electricity service requests
14 May 2026
Since 11 May 2026, our teams attended to more than 8 930 service requests in all areas of the city with a total of 13 783 service requests received. It is important to note that high call volumes combined with the extent of the damage, mean that restoration times are longer in certain areas. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this challenging time.
‘The City’s work to restore electricity in all areas is ongoing. Thus far, we’ve successfully attended to more than 8 930 service requests. It is important to note that in many cases, repairs require complete replacement of damaged infrastructure, rather than simply switching power back on. The City’s high- and medium-voltage networks remained resilient throughout the storm. Most faults occurred within the low-voltage reticulation network, with some areas sustaining significant damage that required full replacement. To strengthen the City’s response, our teams are redirecting resources from less affected areas, including technical teams and Law Enforcement, to communities where support is most urgently needed. This includes additional assistance to communities in Area South.
‘We remind communities that teams are on site across the City and will resolve all outstanding service requests. We appeal for patience while work continues.
‘The City urges members of the public not to log multiple service requests for the same issue, as this creates duplication, increases administrative lead times, and further delays our response,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.
Logged electricity service requests (these are subject to fluctuation as data is cleaned up and requests are attended to):
| Area | Logged Requests | Closed |
| East (Helderberg| Oostenberg | Bloemhof | Parow) | 2513 | 1678 |
| North (Vanguard | Mowbray | City | Atlantis) | 5109 | 3684 |
| South (Mitchells Plain | Wynberg | Gugulethu | Muizenberg) | 6161 | 3568 |
Note: These figures fluctuate quickly with new requests logged and as teams move from one resolved fault to the next.
Remember:
Report electricity faults to the City via our service channels and only use one reporting channel when reporting so that duplicate service requests are avoided as far as possible.
Residents are strongly advised to avoid proximity to exposed electrical infrastructure, such as downed wires. Please report these incidents to the City and our teams will attend to them as quickly and safely as possible.
Please note:
The City's area outages list is updated as information is received from the Electricity teams. If an area is not included, it does not mean teams are not aware of the matter. Residents in Eskom-supply areas are encouraged to contact Eskom directly regarding their electricity faults.
